At least three people were killed and 29 injured when a BEST bus driver lost control, veered onto the footpath and rammed into some vehicles at a crowded market near Kurla railway station on Monday night. “Primarily, it appears to be due to brake failure,” the official said
The incident took place at around 9:50 pm in front of Anjuman-e-Islam School on SG Barwe Marg in Kurla West. An electric bus of route number 332 plying between Kurla and Andheri stations met with an accident.
An official said it appears the driver lost control of the bus which veered off the carriageway at high speed onto the pavement and ran over everything in its path.
More than an hour after the accident, the rescued bus was stopped inside the premises of Shiv Darshan Vihar Cooperative Society.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Satyanarayana said that an FIR has been registered against the accused driver and he has been arrested. “The arrangement has been made and the area is calm,” he added.
An official said it was a case of brake failure when looking at the primaries. According to sources, the condition of some of the injured in the accident is serious.
