After Amit Shah’s review, a survey is underway in Delhi’s police stations to address law and order Delhi News

Police station-wise population, distribution of Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians and others, unauthorized colonies, incidents of use of firearms, action against criminals – these questions are being asked as part of a major survey being conducted in Delhi police stations. This comes after a recent high-profile meeting chaired by Union Minister Amit Shah in the wake of increasing incidents of mob violence and shootings in the capital, it is learnt.

Ordering a crackdown on gun violence, Shah had asked the Union Home Secretary to give special assignments to all Special Commissioner (CP) rank officers in Delhi. Following this, Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora, in a meeting with DCPs last week, directed senior officers to conduct a detailed survey and highlight any deficiencies. Later a 28-page pro forma was given to officers, from Special CPs to Additional DCPs ranks, to visit and review all police stations.

After sharing the pro forma, the Delhi Police Commissioner also issued an addendum highlighting eight essential steps to be taken by inspecting officers. “Inspecting officers will review and comment on the efficiency of utilization of resources available at the police station in the crime pattern. This… may be assessed by understanding whether hotspots of crime have been identified and appropriate strategies have been adopted by SHOs to prevent crimes of various natures. The officer should also comment if any innovative measures are adopted to address the specific offenses affecting them,” the order said.

In addition, sources said, Arora also directed officers to check records and try to personally observe the human interaction aspect of police stations.

The Delhi Police PRO did not respond to queries seeking comment.

Regarding crimes against women, “Study the pattern and severity of incidents of abuse against women and girls on the streets because it reflects chaos and provokes people and observes about it.”
