The LG Secretariat on Tuesday directed the Delhi Chief Secretary and Police Commissioner to launch a special drive in the next two months to identify and take action against “illegal immigrants from Bangladesh” living in Delhi as per the “demands of the Muslim community” in the capital.
The move came after a delegation of Ulemas (clerics) and Muslim leaders from Dargah Hazrat Nizamuddin and Basti Hazrat Nizamuddin on Saturday expressed “deep concern” to LG VK Saxena over attacks on Hindus and other minority communities in Bangladesh. According to LG Secretariat.
Citing the situation in Bangladesh, the delegates demanded strict action against infiltrators from the country living in Delhi.
“… If Bangladesh continues to mistreat my Hindu brothers – who are a minority there – then the Indian government should take strict action against ‘illegal’ Bangladeshi immigrants… It is my duty to speak for my brothers in Bangladesh. If this continues, illegal immigrants in India Should be expelled,” said a representative of the delegation.
According to the secretariat, the delegation requested that no establishment should provide rental houses or employment to “illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators”. not admitting their children to any school; “Trespassers” should be removed from roads, footpaths, parks and other government lands, “encroached by force”, and identity documents such as Aadhaar cards, voter ID cards “illegally obtained” by them should be cancelled.
