“Raj Kapoor’s 100th birthday marks an important milestone in the golden journey of Indian cinema. It started with ‘Neel Kamal’ in 1947 and we are on our way to 2047. “Looking back at this 100-year journey is such a contribution to the country,” PM Modi said. The Prime Minister then suggested that the family capture the global impact of Raj Kapoor and his films in a visual format. “Can we do something, maybe a film that captures Raj Kapoor’s imprint on the hearts and minds of people in Central Asia… He had a huge impact on their lives in Central Asia and I think we should revive it and connect it with the new generation. We have to do something to connect it and I think it is possible,” PM Modi said.
Recalling the power of Raj Kapoor’s films, he narrated an incident about former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and his deputy LK Advani. “During the Jana Sangh era, elections were held in Delhi and the elections were lost. So Advani ji and Atal ji said, ‘We lost the election, what to do now? So let’s watch the movie.’ “They went to see a movie and it was Raj Kapoor’s ‘Phir Subha Hoagi’ (1958) and then New Dawn happened,” he said.

He also revealed that he once went to China where the organizers were playing Raj Kapoor film songs. “I asked my team to record it on mobile and sent it to Rishiji. And he was very happy,” Modi told the family.

Ranbir Kapoor has said that he will always be grateful to Prime Minister Modi for talking to his family. “We had a lot of fun talking to the Prime Minister and we asked a lot of personal questions.
