The Pakistani fast bowler completed 100 T20 wickets with three wickets in his four-over spell in the first T20I against South Africa in Durban on Tuesday.
South Africa scored 183 for 9 in 20 overs off David Miller’s 40 balls, conceding just 22 runs, becoming the third Pakistani bowler to complete 100 wickets in this format after Shadab Khan and Haris Rauf. 82.
Afridi achieved the feat in his 74th T20I match, making him the third fastest bowler from a full member nation to take 100 T20I wickets behind Haris Rauf (71) and Mark Adair (72).
Afridi also became the fourth bowler to complete 100 wickets in all three formats. The 24-year-old is also the youngest bowler to reach the mark and the only bowler to reach 100 wickets in all formats before turning 30.
Sri Lankan pace legend Lasith Malinga was the first bowler to complete 100 wickets in all three formats, achieving the mark in 2019. He was followed by New Zealand’s Tim Southee and Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan in 2021.
Afridi made his T20I debut for Pakistan in 2018, a few days before his 18th birthday. At last year’s ODI World Cup in India, Shaheen became the fastest bowler to complete 100 ODI wickets from a full-member nation, reaching the mark in just his 54th. ODI.
