The city ranks high on the list of 100 best food cities in the world

Indian cuisine has once again been recognized globally, securing the 12th position in Taste Atlas’ prestigious list of the 100 best cuisines in the world for 2024-25. This year-end ranking by the popular food and travel guide is to highlight the diverse and rich culinary traditions of different countries.

The rankings were determined based on 477,287 valid ratings for more than 15,000 foods in Taste Atlas’ extensive database. The top five cuisines in the world were Greek, Italian, Mexican, Spanish and Portuguese. While India didn’t make the cut in the top 10, its strong flavors and iconic cuisines secured their spot in the finals.

Famous Indian cuisine and restaurants

Taste Atlas has highlighted some of the best Indian dishes, ranking the food at 12th place, which are must-try for food enthusiasts:

  • Amritsari Kulcha
  • Butter Garlic Naan
  • Murg Makhani (Butter Chicken)
  • Hyderabadi Biryani

Similarly, legendary Indian restaurants such as Dum Pukht (New Delhi), Glenary (Darjeeling), Ram Ashray (Mumbai), and Shree Thacker Bhojanalaya (Mumbai) were honored for their contribution to India’s culinary heritage.

Many Indian dishes have made it to the Taste Atlas’ list of the 100 best dishes in the world:

  • Murg Makhani: 29th place
  • Hyderabadi Biryani: 31st place
  • Chicken 65: 97th place
  • mincemeat: 100th place

Indian cities also made a significant impact on the ranking of the 100 best food cities globally:

  • Mumbai: Secured an impressive 5th place
  • Amritsar: 43rd place
  • Delhi: Surprisingly ranked 45th, leagues behind Mumbai

Other cities like Hyderabad (50th), Kolkata (71st), and Chennai (75th) also make the list.

This recognition adds to the many accolades Indian cuisine has received from the Taste Atlas 2024. The diversity and richness of Indian cuisine continues to resonate globally, showcasing the nation’s cultural and culinary depth.
