Karnataka is likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall in the coming days, with widespread rainfall expected over coastal, Malnad and south-interior districts, according to weather officials. A yellow alert has been issued in several districts, including Bengaluru, till Friday. This comes after the rains triggered by Cyclone Fengal.
According to the forecast, Tumkur, Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, and Kodagu districts are likely to experience heavy rain on Thursday and Friday, while light to moderate rain is expected over most parts of south-interior Karnataka.
A yellow alert has been issued for Friday in Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Chitradurga, Kolar and Ramanagara districts, while heavy rain is expected in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on Saturday.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) attributed the rains to a low-pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal and eastern Indian Ocean, which is pulling moist winds into the state.
Gangapur in Dakshina Kannada, Davangere, Gadag and Kalaburgi received rain on Monday. The IMD has indicated that incessant rain will continue over parts of coastal, southern and northern Karnataka in the coming days.
Karnataka is likely to experience dry weather on Saturday and Sunday, apart from light rain at some places.
Meanwhile, light to moderate rain is expected in Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan and Kodagu districts on December 16 and 17.
The IMD has forecast a 2 degree Celsius drop in minimum temperatures over the next three days in north and south-interior Karnataka, after which no major change is expected.
