Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghvi handed over Indian citizenship certificates to 56 Pakistani minority nationals at a camp on Wednesday. An official statement said that between 2017 and 2024, a total of 1,223 citizenship certificates have been issued in Ahmedabad under the provisions of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.
In the statement, Sanghvi told the new citizens, “Today, even if you are born in Pakistan, you can make India your land of work. Many minority families who migrated from Pakistan have made progress in various fields and contributed to the development of the society. Their children excel in higher education. Central and state governments from Pakistan have worked together to provide a new identity to displaced Hindu families.
MLAs Payal Kukrani, Amul Bhatt, Amit Shah, Dinesh Kushwaha and Babusinh Jadav along with Ahmedabad Deputy Mayor Jatin Patel and Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation Standing Committee Chairman Devang Dani and others were present at the event. On that occasion, some who got Indian citizenship expressed their gratitude for their experience and the efforts of the government.
