A cyber police station has been set up in the Mahakumbh Mela area with a team of cyber experts appointed there to watch and check threats like AI, dark web and misuse of social media platforms. The initiative is to protect devotees from possible cyber scams during the grand event, a government spokesperson said.
As around 45 crore devotees are expected to attend the fair, a team comprising cyber experts and officials from across Uttar Pradesh has been formed to manage online security. These experts will provide round-the-clock vigilance and strive to ensure a safe and seamless experience for pilgrims from India and abroad, the spokesperson said.
Officials informed that elaborate plans have been made to protect the devotees from cyber frauds from fake and dark websites and malicious activities on social media.
There are measures to prevent any abuse of AI, apart from Google social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook. Suspicious activities such as fake links used by fraudsters are closely monitored and neutralized, the spokesperson said.
The cyber security team has identified 44 suspicious websites and started taking action. To ensure the safety of devotees attending Mahakumbh 2025, a large-scale awareness campaign is underway.
