They embraced their cultural roots by marrying in a traditional Tamil Brahmin Iyengar ceremony. Kirti wore an elegant Madisar, nine-yard saree draped in Iyengar kattu style, while Antony complemented her in a vesti.
Speaking about the significance of madisar, Tamil-born expert Vijaya Swaminathan explained that this draping style is usually associated with Tamil Brahmin women after marriage. It is a traditional style, with variations across South India, such as the Nauwari of Maharashtra or the Telugu Brahmin drape.
Although madisar is rarely worn daily in contemporary times, it is a major choice for festivals and religious occasions.
Keerthy’s bridal look was complemented by traditional Bharatanatyam jewellery, said Swaminathan, a set that included various intricately designed jewellery:
- armlet (eggplant): Worn on the upper arm, adding to her regal appearance.
- So much and haram: Short and long necklaces enhance the beauty of the bride.
- Manga Tikka or Netty Chuti: The forehead accessories that beautifully framed her face.
- Udayanam (Belt): An attractive addition that holds the saree in place while enhancing the elegance of her look.
- Rakkodi, Surya and Chandra Pirai: An ornament for her hair symbolizing auspiciousness and heavenly blessings.
These traditional pieces reflect the cultural richness and significance of her bridal attire.
Keerthi’s relationship with Antony surprised many, as the actress has always been extremely secretive about her personal life. The two have been together for 15 years long before Keerthy made her cinema debut with Priyadarshan’s film. Gitanjali In 2013.
With fans and well-wishers flooding social media with congratulatory messages, Keerthi’s choice to embrace her heritage has inspired many to appreciate the beauty of Indian tradition.
