A special court this week sentenced a 33-year-old man to 20 years in prison for sexually abusing his neighbor, a minor girl, by praising her handwriting.
The incident took place on November 20, 2016 in the eastern suburbs of the city, when the eight-year-old girl was playing with other children near her home. Both his parents were away at work. When the mother returned, she found the girl crying. The girl told her mother that while they were playing, the accused, who lived near their house and knew them, took her and another child to his house. He asked the victim to write on a blank pen and paper saying that his handwriting was good. He then gave some money to another child to buy lunch. While the victim was writing, the accused started sexually assaulting her.
When the accused went to fetch water, the girl got scared and ran away asking for water. After talking about rape, her parents caught the accused and informed the police. The court relied on the statements of the victim and other witnesses.
In his defense, the accused said that the medical evidence showed that there was no injury, but the court said that the absence of visible injuries does not mean that there was no beating and that there was no reason for the victim to falsely implicate the accused. .
The bench of Special Judge Aditi U Kadam has sentenced the accused to 20 years imprisonment according to the section of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act, 2072.
