Case filed against UP police officer for allegedly ‘sexually exploiting’ IIT Kanpur girl Lucknow News

A case has been filed against a DSP working as ACP in Kanpur for having sex with a student of IIT Kanpur by giving false assurance of marriage. Accused Mohammad Mohsin Khan has been booked under BNS Section 69 (having sex with a woman by fraudulent means or making a false promise of marriage).

The accused, a 2013 Provincial Police Service (Uttar Pradesh) batch officer, joined IIT-Kanpur as a PhD scholar in July this year, police said on Thursday. Khan was removed from his posting on Thursday and attached to police headquarters, Lucknow.

Kanpur Additional Commissioner (Law and Order) Harish Chandra told The Indian Express that the woman had initially lodged a complaint with the IIT-Kanpur administration. The administration conducted an internal investigation and informed the Commissioner of Police of Kanpur about this two days ago. He said that preliminary investigation has been done and the woman filed a complaint with the police on Thursday.

In her complaint, the woman said she met Khan at the institute. She has accused him of hiding the fact that he was married and promising marriage and started the relationship. Later when he came to know about his marriage and objected, he promised to divorce his wife, Chandra said, citing the complaint.

Based on the woman’s complaint, the commissioner directed to register an FIR against the ACP. A report was also sent to DGP Prashant Kumar.

Chandra said that a three-member SIT has been formed.
