Himachal Minister Vikramaditya Singh meets Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, seeks help for construction of roads and bridges. Chandigarh news

Himachal Pradesh PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh met Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari in Delhi on Friday and raised various development issues related to the state.

Vikramaditya Singh asked Nitin Gadkari to construct an alternative road from Ghatsni, Shilha-Badhani-Bhubujot-Kullu to Bhubujot with a tunnel which would reduce the distance of 40 km on National Highway 144. Along with its strategic importance, Kullu district is convenient for tourists visiting the hilly state.

He asked Gadkari to approve construction of a Rs 125.57 crore double-lane bridge across the Beas river between Basantipattan and Kheri, connecting Kangra and Hamirpur districts, on a priority basis under Bharat Setu Yojana. Singh said that Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu had also raised the issue with the Union Minister in his previous meeting.

He also requested for the construction of 199 million 110 meter span single lane steel truss motorable bridge at Beas Pandoh on Pandoh-Shiva road in Mandi district.

On his part, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari assured Singh of all possible support to the state.

Singh thanked Gadkari for sanctioning Rs 350 crore under the Central Roads and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF), which will go a long way in improving road connectivity and boosting growth in the state. He thanked the Union Minister for the support provided by the Union Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC) for granting exemption to ropeway projects from forest clearance.

Recently, CM Sukhu asked Nitin Gadkari to exempt the state government from forest clearance by MOEFCC for ropeway projects in the state. The state government’s request was accepted last month.
