Reinstatement of IPS officer who retired last year after Supreme Court verdict Bharat News

The Home Ministry on Tuesday reinstated IPS officer Gurjinder Pal Singh, who retired last year, in service following the Supreme Court’s recent verdict.

Last month, the Chhattisgarh High Court quashed three FIRs against Singh for alleged corruption, sedition and extortion that were registered against him during the Congress government’s rule. He was also suspended in July 2021. In January 2022, he was arrested in a corruption case and months later was granted bail by the High Court.

Adhikari Singh, a 1994 batch officer, was earlier the Additional Director General (ADG) of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) as well as the Inspector General (IG) in Raipur.

The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) on Tuesday ordered Singh’s reinstatement within four weeks, noting that an FIR had been registered against him “on the order of a top official of the (then Chhattisgarh) state government,” he said, but did not specify his line.

The government appealed against CAT’s order in the High Court, which upheld the order in August this year. The government then approached the Supreme Court against the High Court order, but its petition was dismissed on December 10.
