Former Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan has been suspended from bowling in English Cricket Board (ECB) competitions on Friday following an independent assessment of his bowling action.
“The Bangladesh all-rounder has been suspended from bowling in ECB competitions following an independent assessment of his bowling performance. Shakib’s action was taken by the permanent umpires while playing for Surrey in the County Championship match against Somerset in September,” the cricket board said in a statement.
“Shakib completed an independent assessment at Loughborough University earlier this month, which found that elbow extension in his bowling action exceeded the 15 degree threshold as defined in the rules. The suspension is effective from receipt of the independent assessment on 10 December 2024, and a review of bowlers reported with suspected illegal bowling action. follows the procedure set out in the ECB’s regulations,” it added.

Shakib was investigated for his actions after his club’s defeat to Surrey Somerset in September. It was the only match he played for the county where he scored 12 runs in the first innings and 0 runs in the second.
According to the ECB, Shakib is ineligible to bowl in ECB competitions until he passes an independent re-evaluation of his bowling action.
The 37-year-old is the latest controversy for Shakib after the career of the Bangladeshi, with whom he is believed to still have ties, has been thrown into doubt following the fall of the Awami League government. The all-rounder is also embroiled in a murder case, and is yet to get the all-clear from repatriation authorities to play for his country.
