At least six people, including a minor child, died in a massive fire in a private hospital in Tamil Nadu. The incident took place in Tamil Nadu’s Dindigul district late on Thursday.
All six people were found unconscious in the elevator of the building, according to the police and fire department. They were taken to another hospital where doctors declared them dead. The victim died of suffocation inside the elevator while the fire department was conducting a search and rescue operation at the hospital.
Rescue teams evacuated at least 30 patients and doctors from the building. Officials said that those who were rescued were admitted to the district government hospital.

Citing the preliminary investigation, the police said that the fire may have been caused by an electrical short.
Scenes from the incident showed several fire engines at the scene as flames and smoke billowed from the hospital building.
