The chairman of the US House of Representatives’ China Committee and a top Democrat told the CEOs of Google-parent Alphabet and Apple on Friday that they should be ready to remove TikTok from their US app stores on January 19.
Last week, a US federal appeals court upheld a law requiring China-based ByteDance to remove TikTok or face a ban in the United States. Republican Rep. John Mulenaar and Rep. Raja Krishnamurthy separately urged TikTok CEO Shou Ji-chew to sell the short video app used by 170 million Americans.
“Congress has acted decisively to protect the national security of the United States and protect American users of TikTok from the Chinese Communist Party. We urge TikTok to immediately implement a qualified divestiture,” the lawmakers wrote.
