Delhi LG orders crackdown on migrants: 2 Bangladeshi migrants arrested for overstaying in capital | Delhi News

Days after the Delhi LG Secretariat ordered a crackdown on illegal immigrants from Bangladesh, two nationals of the country were arrested from Hazrat Nizamuddin area for staying in India without valid documents, police said on Friday.

Two Bangladeshi nationals, identified as Abdul Ahad (22) and Mohammad Azizul (32), were arrested on December 10 and 12, Deputy Commissioner of Police Ravi Kumar Singh said.

He informed that so far 916 people have been verified in Southeast Delhi, out of which 8 illegal immigrants including 6 Bangladeshis have been detained by the district police.

“Two men were found to be residing illegally in India and were produced before the Foreign Regional Registration Office (FRRO) for deportation proceedings,” the official said, adding that several teams have been formed to verify.

During interrogation, the DCP added, Ahad, who works as a laborer and hails from Sylhet, Bangladesh, admitted that he had entered India on December 6 with the help of a Bangladesh agent to seek work. Azizul, a resident of Dhaka, said that he entered India through the Petrapol-Benapol border in West Bengal in 2004 and has been living here since then.

DCP Singh added that the police team observed that the householders were not aware of the mandatory provisions of the Aliens Act, 1946. The Foreigners Act obliges hotels and landlords to submit information about foreign tenants to the FRRO within 24 hours.
