Frustrated over the CBI’s failure to file a charge sheet against former RG Kar principal Sandeep Ghosh and police officer Abhijit Mondal, parents of a female junior doctor on Friday said the “system” had failed them.
Junior doctors, who have been leading the agitation for weeks demanding justice for their colleagues and a safe environment in the state’s medical colleges, also expressed frustration and vowed to intensify the agitation.
after The court granted bail to the two accusedThe girl’s mother said: “We thought the CBI would speed up the investigation and bring the culprits to justice. But now that the accused is out on bail, we feel that this system has failed.”
“Every day, we wonder if this is another case in which the powerful get away with impunity,” she said. “We are heartbroken. We trusted the CBI to deliver justice, but now we are left wondering if our daughter will get justice,” said the woman’s father.
The junior doctors, who called off the agitation after being assured of strict action and justice, demanded accountability from the CBI and said: CBI should take responsibility for the failure. This has hurt the sentiments of the common people,” junior doctor Aniket Mahato said in a press conference at RG Kar Hospital.
“After so much agitation, this order is really disappointing. Not only for doctors, but all the people of Bengal who took to the streets to protest against the RG car incident,” said junior doctor Asfaqullah Naiya.
Dr Neil Ratan Naiya of the Medical Services Center called for a massive agitation and alleged that the CBI is in the hands of the state government. “People are angry, sad, disappointed. We believe that the CBI did not file a charge sheet in conspiracy with the state administration so that the real killers of RG car victims remain free. Medical Seva Ekta will take out a rally from Karunamayi to CBI office in Salt Lake…If such conspiracies are not stopped now, there will be many victims who will seek justice. If we want to take away justice, we must unite.”
Meanwhile, the Junior Doctors Association has called a general committee meeting to discuss the future course of action. Abhay Manch will protest tomorrow (Saturday) at Dharmatala. We will burn effigies of the health minister, chief minister, prime minister and CBI director to symbolize our anger and demand accountability,” a statement issued by the junior doctors said. The group has also issued a list of ‘immediate demands’.
“The CBI should immediately file a supplementary charge sheet to ensure justice is delivered without further delay,” it added. – with PTI
