While you were sleeping: Rohit Sharma opts to bowl, Akash Deep and Ravindra Jadeja replace R Ashwin and Harshit Rana | Cricket News

India vs Australia, 3rd Test: Indian captain Rohit won the toss and elected to bat first in the third Test of the five-match Test series at the Gabba in Brisbane on Saturday.

India won the first Test in Perth, Western Australia by 295 runs, while Australia won the second day-night Test in Adelaide by 10 wickets.

Toss update

Captain Rohit Sharma elected to bowl under cloudy skies.

“A bit cloudy. A bit grassy and soft looking,” Rohit said at the toss.

“We want to try to make the best of the situation and see what we can do with the ball going forward.

“We will try and do what is expected of us.”

Jadeja came in for Ashwin

Ravindra Jadeja has replaced R Ashwin. India rotated their spinning all-rounder for the third consecutive Test after Washington Sundar’s presence in the series opener in Perth.

Harshit Rana has been replaced by Akash Deep

Akash Deep was appointed to play his first Test outside India alongside Harshit Rana after India were dismissed wicketless in the 10-wicket defeat in Adelaide. Akash Deep has played five Tests so far in his career.

Hazlewood returned

Pat Cummins confirmed on the eve of the match that Scott Boland was the unlucky bowler to replace Josh Hazlewood, who missed the game in Adelaide due to a side strain.
